Blow-Up

Why it’s hipster approved: Blow-Up is an artsy British film made in 1966. It was directed by Michelangelo Antonioni and captured the swinging sixties of London. It follows a fashion photographer who thinks he witnessed a murder. Hipsters love the cool sets and awesome clothes. It has a brief appearance by the mod-hottie Jane Birkin. The rock band The Yardbirds even make a memorable cameo. In addition to all of this, hipsters love the killer jazz score by Herbie Hancock.

What hipsters won’t admit: They loved the many references to Blow-Up in the comedy Austin Powers.

How to impress a hipster: All hipster know this, so you should also…the main character Thomas was largely based on a very well know fashion photographer in London during the 1960s named David Bailey. Bonus* David Hemmings, the actor who played Thomas, later appeared as Dildano in the 1968 hipster classic Barbarella and later in Deep Red, another hipster classic.
