Bottle Rocket

Why it’s hipster approved: Bottle Rocket was Wes Anderson’s first feature length film. Way back in 1996, long before his American Express commercial, Wes Anderson was a name only known by two types of people, film geeks and uber hipsters. Bottle Rocket was, and still is, some of his greatest work. Hipsters have every reason to love it. The score, the then unknown cast, the writing, the dry humor and the way in which every scene flowed with a unique Wes Anderson style that hipsters now all know and love.
What hipsters won’t admit: Re-watching Bottle Rocket reminds them of a time when Wes Anderson’s films were just light-hearted, solid and funny. Hipster’s still love Anderson but recognize his stuff has become a bit heavy in recent years and often lack some of that original charm.
How to impress a hipster: Like a David Lynch film, there isn’t a lot hipster’s don’t already know about Bottle Rocket, so at least know this to fit in. Bottle Rocket was actually the name of a 13 minute short film written by Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson in college. It became the basis for the feature length (I think the short is on a special edition dvd). This film was the first feature by Owen Wilson and I feel it’s safe to say it will always be his greatest performance.
